Deposit & Stage Payment Protection

Deposit & Stage Payment Protection

Protecting your payments during installation

When you choose a HIES Accredited Installer, your deposit and stage payments can be protected if the installer stops trading before completing your installation.

This helps ensure your money and your project are not put at risk.

What is Deposit & Stage Payment Protection?

When arranging a home energy installation, you may be asked to pay a deposit or stage payments. This protection is designed to cover those payments if your installer is unable to complete the work due to ceasing trading.

In simple terms:
If your installer stops trading, the policy helps make sure your installation can still be completed by another installer. If that can’t be arranged, you may be eligible for a refund (subject to policy terms).

Key details:

Covers up to 25% of your contract value.
Maximum cover of £5,000.
Valid for 120 days from the date you sign your contract.
Subject to policy terms and conditions.

How You Are Protected?

To be protected, the following must apply:

Your installation is registered with us by your HIES Accredited installer.
You have a contract with the installer named on your certificate.
You can provide proof of the payments made to the installer.

Your protection is only active once you receive written confirmation from HIES. If you do not receive this, contact your installer.

What is Not Covered?

Any payments above 25% of the contract value (up to a maximum of £5,000) before completion of the installation.
Payments made outside of your contract.

Why Deposit & Stage Payment Protection Matters

Without protection, if an installer stops trading, you could:

Lose your deposit.
Need to pay again to another installer.
Face delays and added costs.

This protection reduces that risk and gives you confidence when making payments.

After You Have
Paid a Deposit

You should keep the following documents safe:

Your contract
All receipts for payments made.
Any written guarantees

These will be required if you need to make a claim.

Check Your Registration

Your installer must register your installation with HIES.

Once registered, you will receive:

A Customer Registration Certificate
A Deposit & Stage Payment Protection Certificate
Policy Terms & Conditions

Installers are expected to complete this within 7 days of contract signing.
If you do not receive these documents, follow up with your installer.
