Code of Practice and Standard Terms of Membership

Clear standards and guidance that every HIES Accredited Installer must follow – designed to safeguard homeowners and support fair, consistent working practices across the industry.

About the Code of Practice

HIES is committed to raising standards in home energy installations and protecting homeowners throughout their journey. The Code of Practice sets out the expectations every HIES Accredited Installer must follow – from how they communicate with customers to the protections they must offer.

All HIES Accredited Installers must treat customers professionally, respectfully, and with care. Installations must meet our required standards and be supported with written guarantees, backed by specialist insurance for added reassurance.

What the Code of Practice Covers

The Code of Practice covers key areas of consumer protection, including:

  • Responsible marketing
  • Supporting vulnerable customers
  • Clear pre-contract information
  • How HIES Accredited Installers should communicate and operate throughout the customer relationship

The Code of Practice is approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) Approved Code Scheme.
